In response to the call of our Secretary-General Nathaniel Denton Bricknell, the investigating officer at the office of the Public Protector advised that they have notified Minister Dr. Zweli Mkhize of their investigation into our allegations of corruption made against him. This call was made after it was reported that Dr. Zweli Mkhize improperly benefitted in facilitating a loan of R210 million between the PIC and an oil company called AfricOil. Initially, it was reported that AfricOil was declined by the PIC for the loan. After which it was alleged that at meeting at Luthuli House in 2016, where the loan application with the PIC was discussed and Mkhize, who was then ANC treasurer general, allegedly agreed to promote Afric Oil’s projects. For facilitating the loan Dr. Mkhize was to receive an amount of R4.5 Million.

This is not the first time this year Dr. Mkhize has been accused of taking kickbacks. Earlier this year he was accused of demanding a kickback for a Gupta deal with PRASA. The Public Protectors office has advised us that the investigation will be extended to the PIC. We have been advised the investigation can take up to 6 months.

In light of the on-going scourge of corruption and abuse of power, we have created an email where acts of corruption can be reported and call for all South African’s to make use of it. Send all correspondence to reportit@adec.org.za, from tender irregularities to improper appointments of official and state staff to direct abuse of powers. We urge you to not stand by and allow this to continue.

South Africa works, when South Africans unite.
