SUBJECT: ADeC Celebrates Heritage Day with fellow South Africans.

DATE: Sunday, September 23rd, 2018

EMBARGO: For Immediate Release

ADeC leader, Moses Mayekiso commemorates Heritage Day with fellow South Africans and called on civil society and the youth to reflect on our nation’s diverse cultures and identity. This year, South African celebrates Heritage Day under the theme: “The Year of Nelson Rolihlahla Mandela: Advancing transformation of South Africa’s heritage landscape.”

We must use our voices to ensure that issues affecting societal sustainability are addressed with tolerance and respect for one another. We encourage all communities to actively participate in contributing towards building a unified society – one which strives to emancipate itself from poverty and injustice. Let us allow our national pride to be our guiding moral compass, to be innovators and problem solvers in our cities, townships and villages. We all have a role to play in making South Africa great.

Whilst many see this day as an opportunity to fire up their braai stands, we must be mindful that this day has more meaning in that it is a reminder of our freedom from oppression and historical melting pot of culture.

It is important for all South Africans, irrespective of race, religion or creed, to protect and pass on our rich cultural beliefs to future generations. Long live the spirit of Ubuntu in all South Africans.
