SUBJECT: ADeC condemns rape at Dros Restaurant, calls for swift action.
DATE: Monday, October 01st, 2018
EMBARGO: For Immediate Release

ADeC leader, Moses Mayekiso condemned the rape of a six-year-old girl at a Dros restaurant in
Pretoria last week. Such a senseless, evil act must not go unpunished by the South African law. The
party leader called for the prosecution to take swift action against the perpetrator and ensure that
the justice system does not fail this innocent child.

Following the infamous viral video which circulated around social media after the incident, it is
unfathomable as to why the 20-year-old suspect followed the innocent girl into the bathroom in the
first place. The man’s suspicious reasoning about helping the girl after she used the loo raises more
questions such as why did he even approach the young girl and why was he found naked by staff
members. The ADeC calls on Dros restaurant group to fully cover the medical and counselling costs
for the victim.

As the suspect cannot be named until he has made a plea in court tomorrow, however, we call on
members of the public to stand in solidarity for the young girl and countless victims like her, at the
Pretoria Magistrate’s Court tomorrow. In a country where crimes statistics are abnormally high,
especially in terms of violence against women and children, the onus is on society and men in
particular to take a stand against these monstrous acts.
