SUBJECT: ADeC Denounces Tito Mboweni Appointment as Finance Minister.
DATE: Thursday, October 11th, 2018
EMBARGO: For Immediate Release

ADeC leader, Moses Mayekiso expressed concern and uneasiness over the appointment of the new
Finance Minister, Tito Mboweni.

Mayekiso recalled working with Mboweni during the earlier days of an uncorrupt ANC where they
had both served as part of the Executive Committee. Mayekiso noted that even back then,
Mboweni’s interests did not relate to the poor or to civic politics.

We doubt he will be beneficial to our communities. We can only hope that as the new Finance
Minister, Tito Mboweni has changed from his nonchalant ways and will deliver to the poor of this
country. There is no track record to show that he can be of help, especially to the working class. We
would like to see his plan of action in addressing key issues such as economic injustices, poverty and
the uneven provision of services in South Africa.

Although we remain wary of the appointment of the Finance Minister, the ADeC remains vigilant of
the outputs from the Ministry of Finance as we continue to fight for economic emancipation of the
poor in our country.
